If you have stitched a Something In Common piece (excluding free designs), we want to hear from you!  Your pictures mean money for charities.  For every picture submission or blog article and description, $.15 is being donated by Something In Common.       GOAL:  $100+

From November 1, 2007 through April 30, 2008, we have chosen
The Bubel/Aiken Foundation to be the recipient of monies raised.  This is a relatively young foundation but it is making great strides to bridge the gap that exists between  young people with special needs and the world around them.  Autism has affected an immediate family member and children from all walks of life which is why this organization was chosen.  More information about the foundation and the work it does can be found at www.bubelaiken.org.

Get those cameras out and take pictures.  Let's have fun and do it fair and square.  Please send your pictures only...spread the word to friends to send in theirs.  If you have stitched from purchased charts or charts from purchased magazines, we want to see them!  Digital pictures in small format can be emailed to SIC at somethingincom@charter.net.  Photos can also be mailed by mail to the address on the left.  Please include your first name and first initial of last name along with your city and state.  Also, please check listings before submitting to avoid your duplicates.  We will publish a sampling of picture submissions but accept our apologies if we cannot publish yours due to size/space restrictions.  All submissions, however, will be listed on the recap page.

Weeks 14, 15, 16:   No pictures submitted.

Week 13:

My Heart, submitted and stitched by Karen V.

Designer note:  I absolutely love your pillow finishing.
The colors are so soft.  Perfect!

Weeks 9-12 -- No pictures submitted.

Pictures Week 8 --  We have two new submissions this week (but sadly, no one sent
in completed cross stitch).  :(

From Barb P - designer:
This first picture is our backyard after last weekend.  We got a dumping of about 14" starting Sat. night and through Sunday.   Needless to say, we had a very white Christmas.

From Barb P. - designer:
This second picture is me holding my new grandson, Bowie, who was born on 12/17/07.  This was taken on Christmas Eve at the new parent's home in Baraboo, WI.  I held him in this position for about two hours while he slept and made his cute little newborn baby noises.

Pictures Week 7 -- There have been no submissions this week.  :(

Pictures Week 6 -- There have been no submissions this week.

Pictures Week 5 -- Two wonderful submissions this week:

Di F. of Alberta, Canada sent us this picture of her completed Let's Go Fishing wall-hanging.

Di says, "I stitched "Let's Go Fishing" for my husband.  We have wonderful memories of camping trips with our family, and he also remembers great times fishing with his own father in the same foothills of the Rockies many years ago."

"I finished it as a wall-hanging, and hung it from a branch -- it's in our garden room between a stone fireplace and a door that leads to our garden from where we can see the mountains."

Designer note:  I really like the woodsy look of the material you chose for the border. The colors match the tent and trees so well.  Love your finishing!

Michelle M, sent us an email with pictures of her completed stitching of The Swing (see more on her blog, Native Texan Stitching Abroad.)

Michelle states, "My youngest daughter is a lover of Dick and Jane, just as I was when I learned to read.  She's reading chapter books now, but still loves images of Dick and Jane type children.  I stitched this one by Something In Common."

Designer note:  Michelle, this is the 1st picture EVER
sent to me since it's release in 1999 of a completed, The Swing.  Thank you so much for sharing your stitching photos.

  Winter Whitetail

From the 2003 JCS Ornaments issue.  Something In Common is one
of my favorite designers, since I really like rustic designs that have
mountains, deer, moose, pine trees, and bears in them.  I'll be giving
this one to my son to go in his yearly collection.

Designer note:  Cyndi, thanks for the kind words.

I needed to get these ornaments "finished" so I can get them mailed.  They're for two different ornament exchanges. The one on the left is  called "Snowed In," and it's designed by Something in Common. I got the
pattern from the December 2006 edition of The Gift of Stitching Magazine. If you haven't subscribed to this wonderful online magazine, do so! You can get all the back issues for a great price and the yearly subscription price is really reasonable. This ornament was finished using felt and glue - no sewing.  Made for an easy finish, and justified my purchase of pinking shears.

Posted by Rachel 9/9/07 on her blog, What Looks Like Crazy On An Ordinary Day:

I just finished Woodland Sampler. It took a little longer than I had anticipated, but it looks good, and was so fun to stitch.

Designer note:  Wow, this looks great!

HIGH COUNTRY SAMPLER.   I stitched this piece while we were on vacation in Wyoming, Montana and Idaho.  It will serve as our "remembrance" piece for this summer, since we saw bears and moose, and experienced the most beautiful scenery.  I truly had a blast working on this one.
The fabric is antique - I found it an an antique shop in Darby, Montana.  It started out as an old
piece of mosquito netting.  In fact, there were two pieces, and each one was 66" long and about
35" wide.  It's got some straining, but I think that it has character.

To the left is one of the pieces before I trimmed off the strings and buckles that were used when it
was being utilized as mosquito netting.

Below is what it looked like after I cut them all off.

It's a very fragile cloth - with large spaces between the threads.  I found that I had to very very
gentle when stitching on it, as any extra tension caused distortion.

Designer note:  What a wonderful story and choice of fabric.

Stitched by Concetta from the U.K.  NANCY, PLAIN & FANCY.
Posted on her blog 6/3/06, OMG!!!! There Is So Much to Tell You.

I had a few HDs in May, as I mentioned in my previous post. First was Nancy, Plain & Fancy by Something in Common. I had so much fun stitching Nancy! ;-) I don't think the hair is quite right, but what the heck. She was stitched on Antique Ivory Belfast with DMC and WDW.

Designer note:  She's cute!

Stitched by Erin.  Visit her blog, Fairy Tales and French Knots.

And finally, Something in Common's "Woodland Sampler." This one is DH's favorite...I tried to pick a mat and frame that would keep it from looking too "Christmas-y," so maybe some day he can hang it in his office (assuming he HAS one!). You can't exactly tell, but the frame reminds me of weathered fencing, which I thought was especially appropriate.

Designer note:  I don't think you'll find any of my designs
too Christmas-y.  I want them to stay out year round!
